Collection Guidelines & FAQs
Information regarding garbage collection, service requirements, schedules, and common service questions.
Garbage Collection Requirements
- Have your cart out by 8:00 AM on your scheduled service day.
- Please do not place garbage out the night before. Bears and other wildlife are common throughout our service area and may get into unattended garbage.
- All household garbage must be securely bagged and placed inside your John Smith Sanitation, Inc. cart.
- Keep the cart lid closed and do not allow garbage to overflow from the cart.
- Place your cart in its designated pickup location where it is clearly visible and accessible to our crew.
- Keep the area around your cart clear of vehicles, snow, gates, animals, and other obstacles that could prevent safe collection.
- Only John Smith Sanitation, Inc. company-provided carts displaying our logo will be collected as part of regular service.
Garbage Cart Guidelines
- One John Smith Sanitation, Inc. company-provided cart is included with standard residential service.
- Only carts displaying the John Smith Sanitation, Inc. logo will be collected as part of regular service.
- Customers who need additional capacity may contact our office to inquire about an additional cart. Additional service fees may apply.
- Do not drill, screw, puncture, cut, or otherwise put holes into the cart. Alterations of this kind are not permitted. Customers will be responsible for the replacement cost of any cart damaged or altered in this manner.
- Please keep your cart in good condition and use it only for regular household garbage.
- Carts should be placed in the designated collection location by 8:00 AM on your scheduled service day.
- Please contact our office if your company-provided cart is lost, stolen, or damaged.
Garbage Bagging
- All household garbage must be securely bagged before being placed inside the cart.
- Please tie or close bags securely to help prevent loose garbage from spilling during collection.
- Loose household garbage should not be placed directly into the cart.
- Do not place garbage on top of or around the cart unless arrangements have been made for additional pickup.
- Please do not place hazardous materials, batteries, hot ashes, or other prohibited items in your garbage.
Pickup Schedule & Timing
- Customers are assigned a regular weekly collection day based on their service route.
- Please have your garbage ready and accessible for collection by 8:00 AM on your scheduled pickup day.
- Collection times may vary from week to week, so please do not rely on the truck arriving at a particular time.
- Carts must be placed in the designated collection location and remain accessible to our crew.
- Weather, road conditions, holidays, or other circumstances may occasionally affect normal collection times.
Missed Pickup
- If your garbage was properly prepared and available by 8:00 AM but was not collected, please contact our office so we can review your route.
- When reporting a missed pickup, please provide your name, service address, and the date of the missed collection.
- If a route is delayed or unable to be completed, customers should look for service updates regarding the affected route.
- Return pickup availability will depend on the circumstances surrounding the missed collection and the route schedule.
Holiday Collection
- Collection schedules may change during certain holidays.
- When a holiday affects your regular pickup schedule, we will provide customers with updated service information.
- Holiday changes may include delayed or rescheduled collection days.
- Please check our website or customer communications for current holiday schedule updates.
